Tabaquismo en la esquizofrenia a largo plazo

Resumen

Propósito.

El tabaquismo es un gran problema de salud prevalente entre los sujetos con esquizofrenia. Nuestro propósito era investigar la prevalencia y las asociaciones del tabaquismo en los pacientes con esquizofrenia a largo plazo.

Métodos.

Se entrevistó a 760 pacientes de esquizofrenia y se registró su consumo de cigarrillos.

Resultados.

El tabaquismo era más prevalente en los pacientes masculinos que en los femeninos. En el análisis de regresión logística, el género masculino, la duración de la enfermedad (DDE) de 10-19 años, estar divorciado o separado, un nivel educativo más bajo y las dosis diarias de neurolépticos (DDN) altas se asociaban significativamente con el hábito regular de fumar. Fumar mucho se asociaba, en hombres, con el tratamiento hospitalario.

Conclusiones.

En los pacientes de esquizofrenia, fumar se asocia con una DDE larga, con una DDN alta y la atención institucional. Las intervenciones para interrumpir o reducir el tabaquismo deben ser parte del tratamiento para los pacientes con esquizofrenia.
