Le fardeau des aidants d'un parent âgé vivant en institution

Abstract

Studies on informal caregiving in institutional settings are rare. The impact on their burden of 197 caregivers' perceptions of their elderly dependents' autonomy was investigated. The results of previous research on caregivers' burden in non-institutional contexts were used to provide an empirical starting point for the research. The results of regression analysis show that help for bathing and concurrent demands have an impact on objective burden, but caregivers' perceptions of their elderly dependents and the social support they receive affect subjective burden.

Résumé

Très peu d'études se sont penchées sur la contribution des aidants en milieu institutionnel et plus particulièrement sur leur fardeau. L'impact de la perception de l'autonomie du parent âgé sur le fardeau ressenti est examiné à partir des résultats de recherches portant sur le fardeau des aidants de parents âgés vivant dans la communauté. Avec un échantillon représentatif d'aidants de la population québécoise (n = 197), les résultats d'une analyse de régression montrent que l'aide pour le bain et les demandes concurrentes ont un impact sur le fardeau objectif comparativement à la perception de l'autonomie et le soutien social pour le fardeau subjectif.
