Appendix 1 - Sierra-Leone Union, Port Harcourt. Constitution, Rules and Regulations

Summary

  • 1. Name:

  • The Union shall be called the Sierra-Leone Union, Port Harcourt.

  • 2. Object.

  • The main object of the Union shall be to seek to unite all Sierra-Leone citizens and descendants resident or domiciled in Port Harcourt with a view to fostering their general welfare, and to serve as a link with the homeland as well.

  • 3. Membership:

  • (a) Membership shall be open to Sierra-Leonians or their descendants above 18 years of age. New members shall be admitted and registered following the satisfactory completion of the application form of the Union:

  • (b) Any eligible person desiring membership shall complete the Union's application form and submit it with the relevant enrollment fee to the Secretary:

  • (c) Enrollment fees shall be 50 Kobo flat for both male and female.

  • 4. General Meetings:

  • General meetings shall be held every second Saturday of each month. Executive meeting shall be held on the Wednesday preceding the general meetings.

  • 5. Election:

  • Election of officers shall be held annually in the month of March. The Annual Report and the Union Audited Statement of Accounts shall be submitted at the February general meeting.

  • 6. Officers:

  • The Officers of the Union shall consist of:

  • (a) President

  • (b) The Vice President

  • (c) Secretary

  • (d) Assistant Secretary

  • (e) Treasurer

  • (f) Financial Secretary

  • (g) Welfare Officer

  • (h) Auditor

  • The Officers shall perform all duties normally incidental to their respective offices subject however, to such changes or additions at the direction of the Union.

  • 7. Resolutions:

  • At every meeting, the decision of the majority shall be final.

  • 8. Composition of Executive Committee:

  • The Executive shall be composed of all officers and 2 members—one male, one female—to be elected.

  • 9. Quorum:

  • At the General Meeting, 12 members shall form a quorum.

  • (b) At an Executive Meeting 4 members shall form a quorum including the President or the Vice President and the Secretary or the Assistant Secretary.

  • 10. Monthly Subscriptions:

  • Monthly subscriptions shall be 30 Kobo male and 20 Kobo female.

  • 11. Distant Members:

  • A distant member who is financial shall enjoy all the privileges of the Union as if he or she was present, but shall not be elected to office.

  • 12. Forfeiture of Benefits:

  • A member shall forfeit his or her benefits if he or she is in arrears of monthly subscriptions up to three months.
