Pleas of Land held at the Husting Court of London on the Monday before the Feast of St John before the Latin Gate in the eleventh year of the reign of King Henry VI

On the said day in the said year Joanna, the widow of William Boton, late citizen and goldsmith of London, came here as one of the executors of the testament of the aforesaid William Boton and had the testament of the same William proved by John Wethiale and John Adys, sworn witnesses, and carefully examined as to its articles concerning his lay fees, and they said on oath that they had been present when the said William Boton drew up his testament in this way: In the name of God, Amen. On 15 August 1431 and the ninth year of the reign of King Henry VI, I, William Boton, citizen and goldsmith of London, being of sound mind and with good memory, draw up, make, and ordain this present testament of my last wishes in this manner: Firstly, I leave and commend my soul to almighty God my creator, and to the blessed Mary his mother, and to all the saints, and I leave my body to be buried in the church of St Vedast, London, its manner to be arranged by my executors etc. Item, I give and bequeath to Joanna my wife all my tenements with shops and their other appurtenances which I have in the parish of St Vedast in West Cheap, London, and which I formerly acquired from the executors of the testament of William Grantham, citizen and goldsmith of London in his lifetime, to have and to hold all the aforesaid tenements with shops and their other appurtenances by the same Joanna and her assigns until the end of her lifetime, from the chief lords …, thus that the same Joanna should during her lifetime see to and hold my anniversary obit well and properly in the said church of St Vedast on the same day as I shall happen to die.
