Summary
Self-care is any action we purposefully take to improve our physical, emotional, and/or spiritual well-being. It involves being aware of and attending to our body’s needs, as well as integrating self-care into our daily routine, relationships, and environment. Self-care can include resting, eating nourishing foods, taking needed medication, seeking medical treatment, engaging in behaviors that may help prevent disease (such as flossing, regular skin cancer screenings), spending time in thoughtful reflection, being kind to ourselves, and engaging in any activity that renews us. It helps build a foundation of our physical health and psychological well-being, and without it, we are more susceptible to exhaustion, emotional and physical burnout, physical health problems, and depletion.
