Summary
This chapter focuses on the unspoken belief that women do not move through the world with full agency to make their own decisions, but, rather, have to be regulated, watched, and even “rescued” in ways that men do not. This belief seems to express itself in many of the ways in which society and the law hold women accountable as adults with full agency for their actions, except, it appears, when it comes to sex and attraction – in and outside of the workplace. This inconsistent behavior is inexplicable – unless you impute it to the unspoken belief.
