Summary
The glass ceiling is about the near-invisible, but filmy lens through which women are uniquely evaluated and through which expectations for them are uniquely shaped, even by well-intentioned people. In September 2018, Republican Senator Orrin Hatch seemed to attempt to give some credence to the testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who famously accused then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, saying that he didn’t “think she’s uncredible,” but rather “an attractive, good witness.” When questioned about his use of the word “attractive,” he responded, “[i]n other words, she’s pleasing.”
