Summary
Part of the core evidence given in this study stems from a comprehensive analysis of parliamentary debates about the grand issues of foreign policy and the irredentist disputes, as well as the reactions to these debates in the editorials of major newspapers. With the exception of Die Zeit, I scrutinised the two newspaper editions following the debate. Daily newspapers usually do not take longer to react to these debates. Die Zeit is a weekly newspaper, and I analysed only the first edition following the debate.Table A8 gives an overview of the material analysed for the German case. Table A9 summarises the material for the Irish case.
