2 - Approaches to Understanding Human Intelligence
from Part I - Introduction
Summary
Scholars have taken several different approaches in their study of intelligence. A grounding in these approaches and how they differ is useful in order to understand theory, research, and practice related to intelligence (Sternberg, 1985c, 1986, 1990, in press). In this chapter I provide a comparative overview of these approaches; each of them will be described in later chapters in more detail.
