6 - Practical implications for preparing a strategy of solving social problems of professional integration of people in late adulthood

Summary

The main goal of each employment strategy is the rise in employment rate and social unity. In order to achieve this goal it is inevitable to prepare accurate guidelines how to execute a strategy.

The following guidelines are aimed at taking possibly best advantage of flexible forms of employment for the activation of people in late adulthood. As an element of the fight with unemployment they allow to limit the areas of social exclusion and improve employees’ and companies’ adaptive abilities to economic changes.

It is very important that the actions include all three recipients: people over 50, labour market institutions and employers.

1. The support for flexible forms of employment connected with the employment of people over 50 should begin in widely undertaken promotional activities such as commercials on television, radio, billboards and websites. This has been also suggested by every third researched who stated that in order to encourage the 50+ to work in flexible forms of employment it is necessary to inform them about such jobs, present advantages and explain what they consist in. According to the research conducted on the unemployed over 50, 34% of the surveyed did not know what flexible forms of employment are or where and how to search for them. The same number of the surveyed justified their opinions with stereotypical and often inadequate knowledge, confusing basic terms. An example for that can be a citation of one of the respondents: “temporary work is holiday job during the season of harvesting”.
