Summary

Maternal morbidity and mortality are significantly higher in multiple pregnancies when compared to a singleton pregnancy. The main contributors to adverse outcome are haemorrhage, preterm labour, placental abruption, placenta praevia, hypertensive disorders, malpresentations and cord prolapse [1]. There is also increased risk of complications after delivery, such as postpartum haemorrhage, mainly due to uterine atony [1, 2].
