Summary
The proposals included in the present book point out clearly the direction which should be taken in the process of innovating hospitals in Poland. So far the attempts of reforming the health care system in our country concentrated rather on changes in financing, ownership or responsibility regulations while it is important to implement innovating solutions in the hospital organizations concurrently.
To achieve success, understood as realizing patients' expectations, health care units must place a particular emphasis on modern methods of management, taking into account cost accounting, their structure, controlling and taking care of income by using all possibilities of its earning. At the same time they should take advantage of new organizational and technological solutions, staying financially in balance. The health care systemic reform still in process cannot be regarded as an excuse for management ineptitude, not applying its basic instruments or even ignoring the environment areas essential for the organization.
Health care has always been a discipline which requires innovations in particular way both by providers of medical services and their patients. The development of medicine with a change in the recognition of the importance of so called ‘evidence based medicine,’ openness of medical profession towards other countries' checked solutions, aiming at most effective treatment of a patient, taking advantage of the latest technical and technological achievements to support medical activities make health care units willing to implement innovations. Unfortunately, the inventiveness is very often limited to medical aspects of hospital's activity, neglecting the aspect of its organization and management.
