Summary
This chapter explores the relationship between water1 and the social pillar of sustainable development as embodied in the notions of water justice and the human right to water. In light of the unique social, environmental, and economic significance of water and its indispensability to human survival, water justice must be placed at the forefront of any sustainable development analysis. This chapter sets out to do so by critically examining water justice issues in Israel and the Palestinian Territories and identifying broader linkages between social and economic development in the water context.
