Summary

Since in both classical and quantum mechanics we are rarely dealing with explicitly solvable equations, this chapter is devoted to an elementary introduction to perturbation theory, Jeffreys–Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin (hereafter JWKB) method and scattering theory, which are approximation methods that play a key role in all applications of quantum mechanics to atomic and nuclear physics.
