Abstract

Systematic experiments on anion-deficient ABO3-δ perovskites are reviewed with a view to the development of a strategy for the design of improved oxide-ion electrolytes. Ba0.6 La0.4 1nO2.7 is shown to be competitive with the best yttria-stabilized zirconia and La0.9 Sr0.1 Ga0.8Mg0.202.85 to be a superior oxide-ion electrolyte suitable for fuel-cell applications.
