ASIL 112th Annual Meeting (American Society of International Law)

The theme of the 2018 Meeting is “International Law in Practice.” The 2018 Annual Meeting will focus on international law in action: how and by whom international law is made, shaped, and carried out, both formally and informally; how it is taught; how and in what ways states and other actors interact; and how participants deploy international legal arguments. The meeting will consider how international legal practice has changed and is continuing to change in response to geopolitical shifts and contemporary challenges, including demands for greater transparency, accountability, legitimacy, and inclusion. Speakers include Justices Joan E. Donoghue and Sir Christopher Greenwood of the ICJ.

BILETA 2018 Conference (British and Irish Law, Education and Technology Association)

“Digital Futures: Places and People, Technology and Data.” Digital technology provides an increasing number of opportunities, which bring with them legal and regulatory challenges. Key themes include legal education, regulation and technology-enhance learning; intellectual property law and technology; telecommunications law and regulation; and human rights and technology.

IFLA RBSCS Mid-term Conference (IFLA Rare Books and Special Collections)

Libraries in the Sky: large-scale collaboration strategies and infrastructures to enhance the use of digital heritage collections. The IFLA Rare Books and Special Collections is inviting speakers from all over the world to Oslo to present their experiences and projects regarding the building of large-scale collaborative tools and infrastructures to enhance the access to and the reuse of digital heritage collections, born-digital or digitized items. An interactive training session on IIIF will also be provided by the National Library of Norway.

Computers in Libraries 2018

“Digital Transformation: Next Gen Tools & Strategies for Community Impact.” Computers in Libraries will delve deeper into library models, strategies, transformational technologies, creative processes, and innovative programs while looking for new and exciting solutions to engage communities and have positive impacts on members. Speakers include Donna Scheeder, President of IFLA.

23rd Standing Conference of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa Library and Information Associations (SCECSAL XXIII)

The theme of the conference is “Positioning Library and Information services to achieve Sustainable development: Innovations and Partnerships.” SCECSAL is the biggest conference for Library and Information Science professionals on the African continent and its purpose is to provide a platform for learning and sharing experiences on LIS developments in the region. Best practices and innovations in fields including preservation of national literary heritage; mass literacy; and open government, human rights, democracy and accountability will be shared and showcased.

NELLCO Symposium 2018

7th International Four Societies Conference

“Changing Actors in International Law.” The international law societies of Australia and New Zealand, Canada, Japan, and the United States of America have held six conferences bringing together early career scholars around a common theme, generally leading to an edited conference volume. The goal of this initiative is to foster a scholarly network between members of the four sponsoring societies. The 2018 Conference will examine changing roles of actors in international law and their impact on relevant theories.
