Movement of Herbicides in Soil

Abstract

A soil column system for determination of relative movement of herbicides in soils is described. A data presentation system which expresses the results for each herbicide in a given soil as a single number is proposed. Comparisons of mobilities of new herbicides with those known for other older, better understood herbicides should make it possible to predict the behavior of new herbicides in the field. The aromatic acid herbicides were most mobile, and the insoluble toluidines least mobile. Results for 28 herbicides are presented.
