Factors Affecting the Pre-emergence Use of 2,4–D in Corn

The pre-emergence use of herbicides offers a means of controlling weeds during the extremely critical period immediately following planting. Weeds can usually be controlled by cultivation if the crop makes a few weeks’ growth before weeds emerge. However, it is practically impossible to mechanically control weeds which emerge ahead of or with the crop.
