The conditions of dust formation in the winds of WC-stars are discussed. Simple analytical estimations for the existence of neutral carbon zones where carbon nucleation might occur are given. It is shown that efficient dust formation can take place in the CI region if the effective temperature of the star is below ~ 25000 K and the density at the base of the wind is larger than ~ 1011 cm–3.
