Social Policy and Society is now in its tenth year of publication, following the successful editorships, initially of Tony Maltby, and then Pete Dwyer and Sharon Wright. As has been the case since its inception, the journal seeks to publish high-quality original material that makes a contribution to the understanding of social policy in a concise and focused format. It does that through the open section, with articles of up to 5,000 words, and through the guest-edited themed section in each issue. The former allows for the publication of work from any area of social policy, while the latter provides the opportunity for a set of articles around a particular theme.

The journal is therefore happy to accept submissions on any aspects of social policy, from different disciplinary perspectives, and from anywhere in the world. All submissions to the open section that fall within the journal's remit are sent anonymously to at least two referees for evaluation. The editorial team are committed to making decisions over the suitability of an article for publication as quickly as possible, and normally within three months of submission (from July to December 2010 the average period from submission to decision was just over three months).

In addition to submissions for the open section, proposals for the journal's themed section are welcome. These are considered by the editorial board and decisions about acceptance are normally made within two months of submission.
