1 A bit startling in this connection is Barocchi's support of Arctino's description of the “foglie auree” placed around the David when it was set up in front of the 1'alazzo Vecchio, by means of long published but universally overlooked documentation of “uno filo d'octone con ventocto foglie di rame” (p. 216, n. 1). Apparently this garland was still in place when Aretino wrote in November 1545.
