We describe the use of collagenase to digest ancient collagen samples to obtain a peptide mixture, and the use of reversed-phase chromatography to purify these peptides. The isolation of the tripeptides glycine-proline-hydroxyproline and glycine-proline-alanine is especially encouraging.
