The Centennial Center for Political Science and Public Affairs is an invaluable resource to political and social scientists. Since its opening in September 2003, the Center has housed more than 100 scholars. The center, located in the APSA headquarters near Dupont Circle, provides a great base of operations for scholars researching in the DC metro area. The Center offers visiting scholars furnished work space, telephone, fax, computers, Internet access, conference space, a reference library, and access to George Washington University's Gelman Library. Visiting scholar stays range from a few days to 12 months. Space is limited to APSA members and is available for faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, and advanced graduate students from the United States and abroad. Scholars are expected to cover their own expenses and a modest facilities fee for the use of the center. Prospective visiting scholars may apply at any time. Research Funding Available
APSA sponsors a number of funds to help finance research. Many of these funds can support your stay at the Centennial Center or elsewhere.
Rita Mae Kelly Fund
The Rita Mae Kelly Endowment Fund was established to support research on the intersection of gender, race, ethnicity, and political power. Income from the endowmen will be used to support (although not limited to) research grants for pre-dissertation graduate students, an award, or a public presentation addressing the intersection of gender, race, ethnicity, and politics.
The Presidency Research Fund
This Fund is designed to support research on the American presidency. With an interest in explaining relationships, institutions, and environment surrounding the president, the Fund supports the work of people whose scholarly research brings them to the Washington area, whether they plan to conduct archival work, library research, or interviews with key officials.
Special Study for the Study of Women and Politics
This Special Fund is designed to provide scholars conducting research on issues of women and politics with supplemental funding.
Warren E. Miller Fellowship for Electoral Politics
This Fellowship honors the outstanding contributions of Warren E. Miller to the study of electoral politics and other areas of political science inquiry. The fellowship supports research residencies in national and comparative electoral politics.
Fund for Latino Scholarship
The primary purpose of this Fund is to encourage and support the recruitment, retention, and promotion of Latino/a political scientists and research on Latino/a politics. The fund awards grants to initiatives that (1) identify promising Latino/a undergraduates and encourage them to enter the profession of political science; (2) provide professional opportunities and financial assistance to Latino/a political science graduate students; (3) support the teaching, research, and publishing activities of junior-level tenure-track Latino/a political science faculty; and (4) support activities that advance our knowledge of Latino/a politics.
Marguerite Ross Barnett Fund
The Barnett Endowment honors the memory of political scientist Marguerite Ross Barnett and supports a biennial postdoctoral fellowship for a political scientist engaged in research on issues of diversity, cultural nationalism, African American voting behavior, education policy, or urban and minority policy and politics.
Huang Hsing Foundation Chun-tu Hsueh Fellowship for International Scholars
The Chun-tu Hsueh Fellowship is designed to provide international scholars funding to cover short-term stays at the Centennial Center. At the current time, the endowment is able to provide a maximum of $1,000 in funding.
