The effects of gestation on behaviour, heart rate and heart rate variability of gilts

  • R.M. Forde (a1) and J.N. Marchant (a1)

Extract

In recent years, there has been increased interest in the development of non-invasive methods to assess the welfare status of an animal. The objectives of this study were to determine the suitability of using heart rate variability analysis as a measure of autonomic activity in pigs during various behaviours and to determine whether these measures were influenced by stage of gestation.
