Thermal Conductivity of Substituted Perovskite Superconductors

Abstract

Measurements of the thermal conductivity of rare earth-barium-copper-oxide superconductors are presented. Heat conduction occurs principally by phonons, and increases below the transition temperature due to a decrease in electron scattering. This implies a strong electron-phonon coupling, and estimates for the coupling constant and transition temperatures are obtained within the framework of BCS theory.
