Abstract

The crystal structures of several icosahedral boron-containing compounds have been refined using MoKα intensity data. Preparation of crystals differs from previous procedures, with boron carbide grown from molten copper and boron arsenide by arsenic vapor transport. The structures consist of icosahedral units bonded together with direct B-B bonds as well as other linkage units (B-C-B and As-As chains).
