Production and applications of cluster beams

Abstract

Cluster beams may be produced by screening out the core portion of a partially condensed supersonic jet and introducing it into a high vacuum chamber. Potential applications of such beams are reported here and include accelerator targets, plasma generation, nuclear fuel injection into fusion devices, and production of thin layers for microelectronics and optics.
