Extract

A complemental male was found on a solitary specimen of the primitive sessile barnacle Chionelasmus darwini. It was located on the scutal apex of the hermaphrodite and accommodated by a notch in the tergum. Its resemblance to complemental males of Bathylasma adds weight to the classification of the genus in the family Pachylasmidae rather than the Catophragmidae. Phylogenetic implications are discussed.
