On Aporocotyle argentinensis n.sp. (Digenea: Sanguinicolidae) from Merluccius hubbsi, and the Phylogeny of Aporocotyle Odhner, 1900 in Hake

Aporocotyle argentinensis n.sp. from the bulbus arteriosus of Merluccius hubbsi is described and figured and compared with the other four known species of the genus. Of 240 hake caught at 12 localities off the coast of Argentina, 54 were infected with a total of 83 flukes, 33 fish with one fluke each, 15 with 2 flukes each, 4 with 3 flukes each, and 2 with 4 flukes each. The incidence of infection at individual localities varied from 0% to 45%. The phylogeny of Aporocotyle in hake is discussed; of the three species occurring in hake, A. spinosicanalis appears to be the most highly evolved.
