1 The play (which Atlas calls “brilliant” I think not, it is more like a pre-echo of Genesis) has recently been reprinted by Douglas Dunn in a selection called What Is To Be Given (Manchester: Carcanet New Press, 1976), a volume which contains Schwartz's best poems – all, I must add, that needs to be read of his poetry; though small, the choice is regrettably unavoidable.
