1. Talattof uses two Persian transliteration systems, which in my view is somewhat disconcerting for the reader. To facilitate reference work, he renders authors’ names and Persian book titles in the standard Library of Congress System of Transliteration, omitting the diacritical marks. Samples of Persian-language poetry, on the other hand, are transcribed according to the contemporary Iranian pronunciation, to preserve the sound pattern of the verses. The present review follows transliterations as they appear in the book.
