The Relevance to Astrophysics of the Results of Recent Experiments With Colliding Charged-Particle Beams

A summary is given of some recent measurements of the ionization and excitation of positive ions by electrons, and the detachment of electrons from H by proton and electron impacts. The results are discussed and compared with theory. Conclusions are drawn which are relevant to atomic collision processes which occur in astrophyscial plasmas.
