Abstract

Abstract

Interactions between ligands (crown ethers and cryptants) capable of complexing large amounts of cations and montmorillonites saturated with Li+, Na+, K+, Ca2+ and Cu2+ have been studied. The results indicate that the interlayer cations of the montmorillonite are trapped within the ligands. These complexed cations can, however, be exchanged subsequently by cations in solution. According to the nature of the complexed cation a swelling of 14·5–15·0 Å or 16–17 Å is observed and these values are discussed in relation to the steric size of the complexed cations.

Kurzreferat

Kurzreferat
