The fact that the petiole of the nest of P. annularis is thickened from time to time as the weight of the nest increases shows that the wasps can adapt their behavior to the needs of the day, even though their chain of work is interrupted. The first part of the nest to be made is the petiole; this is made by the queen long before the first workers emerge.
