Alcohol and heart disease

In a nutshell
The protective association of moderate alcohol consumption on CVD is clear. However, the extent to which this is causal, rather than associated with lifestyle confounders, is not clear.
The polyphenol content of red wine may be specially relevant, but this is also not yet proven. Drinking moderately as accompaniment to healthy and social meals may prove to be the most relevant factor in CV health.
