51 - E 372/201, rot. 37, 21 June 1351 to 20 Sept. 1354

Summary

Enrolled summary of the account rendered at the Exchequer by John of Tilshead, clerk, on behalf of Robert of Campsall, lately the king's clerk of works at the palace of Westminster and the Tower of London, deceased, for his receipts and expenditure on building works at Westminster and the Tower, yearly, and his store account for the same period, between Exchequer years 25 and 28 Edward III. The beginning of the account reveals that approval of it was delayed.

Physical description: One rotulet of two membranes, written on both sides, in a large roll of accounts, sewn together at the top; although the bottom section of rot. 37, m. 2 is soiled, it is legible with the aid of an ultraviolet lamp; the rest of the rotulet is in good condition and wholly legible.

Scope of transcription: Only the total amount of receipts and the expenses of building works in the palace of Westminster and St Stephen's chapel for the period Michaelmas 1352 to Michaelmas 1353 have been included, as well as extracts from the store account relating to building works on the bell-tower of the chapel and houses in the palace assigned to St Stephen's college. Particulars survive for the preceding (no. 40) and following years (nos. 42–43).
