Summary

The three tables in the following pages present the historical recordings made among the Banyoro and Batooro, some of which are mentioned in this book. Every table gathers the recordings by collection, that is, according to the researcher that realized them. The recordings are listed alphabetically1 following the title assigned by the collector and accompanied by the place and date or year of recording, as well as the original catalog code. The first time that a place is mentioned, I specify if it is located in Bunyoro or Tooro. The recordings made by Hugh Tracey are preserved at the International Library of African Music (ILAM), at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. The ILAM online archive is still in its implementation stage, but the recordings have been released in the Sound of Africa Series of ILAM, first as LP records and later as CDs. The recordings made in Bunyoro and Tooro are featured in the records or CDs no. 132 to 136. The catalog of the series (Tracey 1973a and 1973b) supplies details about Tracey's recordings. The recordings by Klaus Wachsmann and Peter Cooke are mostly unpublished and, together with the accompanying notes, are preserved at the British Library as well as available online, although the listening is limited to the first seconds of the tracks. Copies of the Ugandan recordings from the three collections have also been deposited at MAKWAA, Makerere University Klaus Wachsmann Audiovisual Archive in Kampala.
