Summary

January:

Saturday 3rd Letter from [brother] George. Married on Xmas Eve. What a shock. First letter for 12 months.

Monday 5th Went to see Jeannie. Barbara Mullen. Lovely!

Tuesday 6th Saw Vic Oliver in He made a Star. Rotten!

Wednesday 7th Win [Ferrier] fire watching

Thursday 8th Carlisle concert. Didn't go. Terribly cold. Pop at Silloth.

Friday 9th St Annes. Arrived tea time. Polly met me. Stayed in.

Saturday 10th Went to Hallé at B’pool. Introduced to Malcolm Sargent! Went to Manchester for rehearsal.

Sunday 11th B roadcast – Manchester. Nice announcer! 7.15am! Back to St Annes to hear Bessie Collins. Alfred Barker ill.

Monday 12th Caught 1 to 10 home. Freezing! Rang Hutchy up.

Tuesday 13th Had lesson. Good one. Had tea with Wyn [Hetherington] and Con. Went to Skylark. Constance Cummings. Grand!

Wednesday 14th Washed a bit. Bought new musquash coat!!! 39 guineas!!!! Going quiet for a bit now begorra!

Thursday 15th Knitting bee at Buster’s. Went in bus. Had tea and supper at Wyn’s. Back on later bus. Freezing!

Friday 16th Cleaned up for a change. Did piles of shopping and ironed at night.

Saturday 17th Shopped and saw Phil and Grace. Phil's mother ill in infirmary. Wyn and Jack called. Knitted Pop's glove.

Sunday 18th Awful day. Knitted and had a hot pot for lunch. O boy!

Monday 19th Snowing and sleeting. More hot pot! Out to tea and Arthur Askey in I thank you.

Tuesday 20th Winter set in, snowing and blowing gale. No lesson. Hutchy couldn't get through. Finished Pop's gloves.

Wednesday 21st Thick snow. Didn't go out. Winnie fire watching.

Thursday 22nd Thick snow. Pipes frozen! What a to-do! Stayed in all day. Didn't go knitting.

Friday 23rd Cleared up. Tea out and The Devil and Miss Jones! Quite good. Knitted and waited up for Bert. 2.45A.M! Not come yet! Thaw, thank Heaven. No bursts yet!

Saturday 24th B ert arrived 4.5AM. Talked till 6AM. Went to Silloth – Win as well.

Sunday 25th Stayed in bed a bit. Went to badminton match with Wyn and Jack [Hetherington].

Monday 26th Went to Silloth. Tea at Jim’s. Sing at the Golf. Grand time!
