A series of two-volume editions of the most important political writings of major American statesmen from the founding period. The editions are modeled upon the two-volume set that Cambridge recently published, The Political Writings of Alexander Hamilton. As series editors, we would propose an editor or editors for each two-volume collection, introduce them to Cambridge, assist them in preparing their proposal, and provide general supervision of their editorial work. The series would be unique in the available in-print literature, providing students, teachers, readers, and collectors with a comprehensive, editorially consistent, and qualitatively superior set of foundational writings in the American political tradition. As with the Hamilton volumes, the goal of each edition would be to include all that is of enduring political interest, and only what is of enduring political interest.
