Summary
Bonaventure’s Collations on the Six Days of Creation were delivered during the weeks of Easter, 1273, some five years after the Collations on the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. These collations, composed near the end of his life and much more complex than its predecessors, signaled a return to a subject with which Bonaventure had begun his career: the hierarchy of the sciences and the proper order of study. In his resumptio – an early version of the text most readers know as On the Reduction of the Arts to Theology – Bonaventure depended largely upon the hierarchy in Hugh of St. Victor’s Didascalicon. In the Collations on the Six Days, Bonaventure set out his own, more developed view.
