Summary
Part 1 MRCOG is a UK-based examination for postgraduate trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology. It is the first step in a series of three examinations, which leads to the award of membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in the UK. This examination is based on basic sciences related to obstetrics and gynaecology. Historically, the examination paper was focused on molecular biology, cellular mechanisms and other aspects of basic sciences, which did not quite have relevance in current clinical practice. Over the years, the examination has transitioned into a new style with questions that are relevant to clinical practice. The questions are currently SBAs and there are two papers, which aim to assess knowledge in all areas of obstetrics and gynaecology, consisting of 100 questions each, over two-and-a-half hours. The examination in future will be conducted electronically.
