The Theory of Logarithms was first made known to the world by John Nepair, Baron of Marchiston (now Merchiston), in a volume published at Edinburgh in 1614, under the title, “Mirifici Logarithhmorum Canonis descriptio Ejusque usûs in utrâque Trigonometriâ, et etiam in omni Logisticâ Mathematicâ, Amplissimi, Facillimi, et expeditissimi, explicatio.” This work was translated into English by Edward Wright, and published at London in 1618, with the table reduced by one place.
