Special Collection on ‘Biophysical applications of magnetic nanoparticles’

Guest edited by Professor Piero Baglioni and Debora Berti

In 1963 Steve Papell invented for NASA a liquid propellant for rockets. Later Rosenzweig improved the synthesis of the fluid, elucidated its physical chemistry and named it “ferrofluid”, opening a new field with impressive diversified applications. Ferrofluids, usually composed by iron/cobalt nanoparticles, present an exceptionally high magnetic susceptibility making them the benchmark for applications as liquid seal, loudspeakers, audio applications, medical applications, heat transfer, just to cite a few.

This special collection is focused on the biophysical applications of magnetic nanoparticles and gathers contributions from relevant scientists in the most advanced applications within the biomedical field. Synthesis, characterization and biocompatibility/toxicity aspects, contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging, theranostics, hyperthermia, cell labelling and tracking, bioseparation are covered in this collection, highlighting the latest developments, offering a bite of this ever growing field.

Call for Papers for Special Collection

The Editorial Board would like to cordially invite you to contribute a paper to this collection.

QRB Discovery publishes new developments in the field of experimental and computational biophysics. Articles report on significant physical observations of relevance to biological systems, both experimental and theoretical, that may point towards an exciting direction, rather than the presentation of a traditional comprehensive study.

Your paper will go through peer review and we encourage you to contact Alison Paskins (alison.paskins@cambridge.org) if you want to discuss your submission.

Accepted articles will be promoted through social media such as Twitter. For more information on how to submit see hereand submit your manuscript here.
