Harnessing the resources of commercial pig farms to augment research and development facilities provided by Universities, central Government funding and by commerce is not a new approach. The commercial farm sector, with appropriate deployment, provides a very useful resource. While these facilities can be most valuable in contributing to the overall R and D effort one must be aware of their actual and potential limitations.
