1. This article will deal only with the Conventions adopted after the renewal of the Conference's activities in 1949 (see Memorandum of the Netherlands Government, July 1949, Documents VII, p. 2). We shall leave aside the ancient Hague Conventions dating from 1896, 1902 and 1905, as well as the Conference's Charter (1955), which is of no direct importance to legal or judicial practice.
