Six parallel, two-hour Workshops took place during the Symposium, covering subjects that were judged to be particularly important for waste management, directly relevant to the theme of the Symposium and of topical interest to numerous scientific groups in programmes around the world. The concept of such informal Workshops, intended to encourage open discussion, was welcomed by the Symposium participants. All Workshops were well-attended, with several attendees expressing the wish that the scheduling could have allowed participation in more than one group.
