Abstract

Luminescent silica films were prepared by sol-gel synthesis under acidic conditions in the presence of fluoride ions. Luminescence was observed for both the pure inorganic film or film of a silica-based inorganic-organic hybrid material. Powders prepared from the same precursor mixtures were only fluorescent after calcination.
