Abstract

This paper describes the concept and the significance of atmosphere control in the HIP treatment of ceramics and reviews some practical methods to create desirable atmospheres during HIP treatment for some nitride and oxide ceramics by citing published experimental data. The authors propose new HIP equipment which enables atmosphere controlled HIP treatment involving a wide range of ceramics and compounds.
