Badgers and Bovines: a Professional Development Experience in Wisconsin

Maria Mawson is the Academic Liaison Librarian, Law and Education at the University of Sheffield. She graduated in history from the University of Sheffield in 1981 and spent the following year as a SCONUL graduate trainee at the University Library, obtaining her MA in Librarianship from Sheffield in 1983. She then worked for Sheffield City reference and school library services until 1994 when she became Centre Librarian at Sheffield College, moving to her current post in 2000.

On 18th April 2002, I found myself on a flight to Chicago. My ultimate destination was Madison, Wisconsin, and I would be spending the next month at the University of Wisconsin's Law Library. This article gives me the opportunity to share some of my experiences, as well as outlining the benefits of this type of professional development opportunity.
