Conflicto y Distancia: Notas críticas de lecturas y trabajo de campo antropológico

This article discusses epistemological, theoretical, and methodological issues that arise while doing fieldwork in communities where conflict and violence are part of everyday life. It also discusses some of the debates on the role of social research while studying the interaction of conflict, violence, and human suffering. The author explored collaborative research methodologies to build research questions that resonate with both the researcher and collaborators, and she underlines the need to engage in dialogue about their different types of knowledge.

Este artículo trata sobre el quehacer del trabajo de campo — y en particular observación participante— en regiones indígenas caracterizadas por el faccionalismo político (ver el trabajo pionero de Carolyn Nordstrom y Antonius C. G. M. Robben). A lo largo del documento se reflexiona sobre aspectos epistemológicos, teóricos, metodológicos y éticos al analizar las situaciones de conflicto que son parte de la vida cotidiana en la sociedad de estudio. Para ello el texto pone a disposición del lector algunos de los debates académicos que discuten estas cuestiones sobre el quehacer de la investigación social en situaciones de conflicto, violencia y sufrimiento humano. Como punto de partida y a nivel epistemológico, este texto propone la necesidad de confrontar el universo de conocimiento del investigador — limitado por su posición en el marco de las relaciones socio-culturales y de poder— con el de sus colaboradores. Del necesario encuentro conflictivo entre diferentes formas de conocer en el que todas las investigaciones tienen lugar, surge esta propuesta para un modelo de investigación colaborativa en el que tanto los resultados como las preguntas que la orientan pueden ser construidas intencionalmente en interacción con sus participantes.
